Ryder Cup

With the Ryder Cup just ending in the US, I thought I would bring golf back into this blog. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Ryder Cup, it is a golf competition between teams from Europe and the US that occurs every two years. The venue alternates between courses in the US and Europe. If you have read my blog prior to just now, Kiawah, where I went in June and was the location of the PGA championship this year, was the venue for the Ryder cup in 1991.

This year, the Ryder Cup was held at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.

Since it has already finished, I would like to shine upon 2 years from now, at Gleneagles, where the 40th Ryder Cup will be hosted.

HISTORY
Set in an 850 acre resort of beautiful countryside in the heart of Scotland, the Gleneagles hotel is a destination for everyone. It was built in 1924 by a former Caledonian Railway Company and orginally had its own railway station. Today, it is a hotel, with beautiful surroundings that is perfect for the game of golf and ultimate luxury.

The Dormy Clubhouse

GOLF
Gleneagles has 3 courses and one 9-hole, par 3 course; The King's Course, Queen's Course, and the PGA Centenary Course. The PGA Centenary Course opened in 1993 designed by Jack Nicklaus, and will be the host to the Ryder Cup in 2014. If you go to Scotland, and you are a golfer (which I hope you are), Gleneagles is a must. All of the golf courses are regarded among the very best in the world.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
For the non-golfers, there are plenty of various activities as well. Between shooting and fishing school, equestrian, Falconry and even swimming pools, this destination resort can be for everyone. After a long day of golf, there is a luxurious spa (a Leading Spas of the World) wher eyou can relax and get ready for the following day.

ROOMS AND SUITES

Entry Level-Classic Room

With 232 luxury bedrooms and 26 suites, Gleneagles has the feel of an intimate hotel. The room interior range from traditional to modern, many with views of the hotels 850 acres. The Classic rooms are your entry level that faces the interior of the hotel and go up to Estate rooms, which have view over the grounds have have more space. AS I said earlier, the hotel is good for all people, which includes families. There are several family rooms which are spacious and can accommodate a sofa bed or an extra bed for up to 2 children to share their parent's room.

RYDER CUP-START PLANNING NOW
People plan a year or so in advance for taking a trip to see the Ryder Cup. We are already getting requests and have programs available for attending the 40th year. More so, people want to explore the course in 2013 before the Ryder Cup arrives. An example itinerary includes a five-day program, which is ideal for golf lovers. From Day 1 you arrive in Edinburgh, stay at a 5 star hotel, and do some sightseeing of Scotland's majestic capital. You can then enjoy a full day of premier hospitality in the magnificent purpose-built tented pavillion overlooking the 9th green at Muirfield (The Open Championship will be held here July 14-21, 2013). Finally you will spend 2 nights at Gleneagles where you will participate in a golf clinic prior to playing the famed fairways of the PGA Course. If you choose, you can add a couple of days and stay at the Old Course in St. Andrews. And if you have even more time, why not go to Turnberry on the west coast of Scotland?

WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR GAME?
Are you in a big upcoming tournament and want to up your game before hand? Or maybe do you want to impress your significant other? We can arrange a Golf Masterclass with a former Ryder Cup captain while you are on your private tour. You will have tutor that will show you how their skills can be applied to your game. Learn how to practice and let them teach you about preparation, strategy and shot selection. Tour Masterclasses are available at a selection of the finest and most exclusive golf clubs across the UK such as Wentworth, The Renaissance, and St. Andrews.

Summer may have just ended, but it's never too early to plan a trip to Scotland for next year!

Have you already been to Gleneagles? Tell us about it!
